According to the 2021 North American Camping Report, which surveyed U.S. and Canadian campers’ sentiments and behaviors on outdoor recreation in January 2021, more than 86 million U.S. households consider themselves campers, and one thing we know to be true — when families go camping, their four-legged family members go, too. According to the 2019-2020 APPA National Pet Owners Survey, 63.4 million American households own at least one dog, so catering to pet owners is a must for campgrounds and RV parks and resorts.
Dog Parks
Dog parks are the fastest-growing segment of municipal parks across the country. According to a 2019 report from The Trust for Public Land, they found the number of dedicated dog parks in the United States has grown by over 42 percent since 2009. (And that number has likely grown even more since the report was published). The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) reported in 2018 that more than half (55 percent) of park and recreation agencies currently have at least one dog park. While they vary in size, design and amenities, dog parks provide many benefits to dogs and their owners.
