Evolution Dog Wash Welcomes New Production Manager

We are thrilled to introduce Troy Bell as our new Production Manager. Troy joins our team as an Industrial Engineer with more than 20 years of experience in process engineering. In his role at Evolution Dog Wash, he will work to improve company performance, reengineer processes, and continue to enhance product design with an emphasis on quality and safety.

Troy’s past experience as the Director of Operations at Aqua-Hot Heating Systems, Inc provides a smooth transition for him at Evolution Dog Wash working with similar systems (electronics and plumbing) and high-quality materials including stainless steel. His expertise in manufacturing, quality assurance, distribution, materials and purchasing will allow him to oversee operations and streamline the buildout process.

Troy was born and raised in the small town of Hays, Kansas. He moved to his family’s farm when he was 12, where he farmed and ranched for 15 years, including during college. At the age of 12, Troy also began bull riding and competed in high school, college, state level and professional level rodeo until he was 25.

Today in his free time, Troy enjoys riding his Harley Davidson, camping, hiking, hunting and fishing, working in the yard and gardening, as well as playing with his grandchildren.

Evolution Dog Wash is excited to have Troy “taking the bull by the horns” in our local Colorado facility leading our production team and setting up Evolution Dog Wash for success. Please join us in welcoming Troy to our Evolution Dog Wash team.

Budgeting and Planning for Your Evolution Dog Wash

A new budget season is upon us and now is the time to get Evolution Dog Wash into your capital spending budget for the 2021 year. Evolution Dog Wash starts at $14,500 and each machine comes with a complete, two-year warranty. We offer a number of customization options, including personalization with your company’s logo.

As you prepare your 2021 budget to include Evolution Dog Wash, it’s also time to consider the facility preparations that are needed before your dog wash can be installed. Here’s what you need to know.

Planning the Space for your Dog Wash

Evolution Dog Wash is much more than a bathtub for dogs. Our customized, low maintenance machines are made of aircraft grade stainless steel with a triple filtration drain system to protect your facility’s plumbing. This means only having to clean the dog wash tub once a day, compared to other standard tubs which usually clog up after a few washes. Each of our models includes a commercial grooming dryer and product selection for shampoo, conditioner and disinfectant.

Our dog wash dimensions are 79.5-inches wide, 74.6-inches high and 27.7-inches deep.

We recommend at minimum a 100-square foot (10’x10’) space, if possible, for your dog wash. But, the bigger, the better! Keep in mind that this is a luxury amenity you are adding for your dog-loving residents. A larger spa room or outdoor space provides ample room for dogs to exercise and socialize. Many properties have events for the residents around the dog wash to enhance community connections. Yappy Hour has become a favorite as well as adoption events and inviting the local police to wash their K-9 pets.

If you are planning an indoor spa room, we suggest a first-floor space (so tenants won’t be walking muddy dogs upstairs or through common areas, soiling walls and flooring) and near a bathroom or laundry facility for easy access to plumbing to keep installation costs down. Some properties choose to install the doggie spa in the parking garage for convenience when tenants come back from outings with their dog. If your dog wash will be set up outdoors, consider placing it near a clubhouse or in your property dog park, provided there is existing plumbing, such as a dog water fountain.

Although our dog wash can be outdoors in warmer climates, it is made of stainless steel, which can get very hot if not shielded by a shade structure, awning or other covering. An outdoor covered space, or indoor climate-controlled space is ideal for comfort of both the dog and its owner.

Preparing Utilities for Evolution Dog Wash

Evolution Dog Wash can be installed by any qualified plumber and electrician, provided the necessary utilities are in place. Our machine requires:

  • Cold and hot water supply connection (hot water is optional; we offer an internal water heater if needed)
  • ¾-inch incoming water line
  • 2-inch waste drain connection
  • Dedicated 120V 30 Amp hard-wired connection (optional internal water heater requires additional 120V 20 Amp circuit)

Purchasing an Evolution Dog Wash

Meet Parker, Evolution Dog Wash Intern

At the beginning of the summer, Evolution Dog Wash had the pleasure of hiring Parker Skiles as an intern. In the past three months he’s been with the company, Parker has learned to build dog washes from the ground up and assist on the business side with database management and marketing. Here’s his story.

Parker grew up in Golden, CO not far from the Evolution Dog Wash headquarters. As a family friend to Evolution Dog Wash owner, Matt Ogden, he knew Parker would be a great addition to his team for Parker’s hard work, dedication and drive for excellence.

Over the summer Parker learned how to assemble and build Evolution Dog Wash machines to custom specs and make variations per customer’s requests. “At first, I was intimidated to build something so high tech and substantial, I didn’t want to let anyone down. But I quickly learned step-by-step and with the support of the build-out team and high-tech experts, I could actually put together a high-grade, stainless steel dog wash that would pass all our final inspection tests before being shipped out perfectly to the field. It was a pretty rewarding experience,” says Parker.

In addition to building dog washes, Parker was also able to assist on the business and marketing side, gathering research and data to help build and grow the company. He will soon be reaching out to all our Evolution Dog Wash customers to collect photos of our dog washes in the field being used and enjoyed by dogs all across the country. If you are a customer and have a photo to submit and share with others, please send it to Parker at customersupport@evolutiondogwash.com.

Parker is currently a senior at the University of San Diego, studying business and finance. After college, Parker hopes to pursue a career in corporate finance. In his free time Parker likes to play golf, travel and spend time with his family and friends. Parker has one dog, a pug named Einstein, who loves treats and going to his local Evolution Dog Wash.

THE DOG WASH FOR DOG LOVERS

Dog owners the world over love taking their pets out for long walks. Not only is it enjoyable but necessary to keep healthy dogs at the peak of their condition. But dogs being dogs, they love to dive into all kinds of muck and mire, and often cannot stay out of water – no matter how filthy it is. The result – one happy but extremely dirty dog.

Until now the only way to deal with this is to wash the dog out in the driveway, or, as many of us do, in the bath or shower. The drawback to this of course is dog hair everywhere, blocking drain holes and decorating the sides of the bath and walls, with an excited, wet dog running back and forth while we try vainly to towel it dry. This is where a self serve dog wash truly becomes man’s and their dog’s best friend!

The Self Serve Dog Wash in Modern Times

Now, of course, there’s the self-serve dog wash. The genius who thought this up must have been a dog lover. It made me wonder whether he took a look at a car wash one day and somewhere a light went on.  The latest self serve dog wash business, EvolutionDogWash.com features cascading lights, takes credit cards, and even allows the business owner to check in real-time on the dog wash system status and income.

The first dog wash machine was invented by Eduardo Segura and Andrés Diaz in 1998, as the Lavakan (https://witnessthis.wordpress.com/2010/11/03/strange-inventions-from-around-the-world/). The machine is loaded from the side and is allegedly a lot less stressful for our beloved pets than washing them by hand.  Now that I don’t understand – I have to say that in my personal experience it’s not the dog that usually gets stressed but the owners themselves. The inventors claim that the machine has the same effect on animals that a massage shower has on humans. If that’s indeed the case, then one imagines the result is extremely happy and relaxed dogs. What better way is there for them to round off that fantastic walk they’ve just enjoyed?

This really is a great idea! No more blocked drains in the bathroom, or time spent cleaning up after bathing your pooch. One simply loads the animal into the side of the self serve dog wash and the lucky canine has a nice rinse off with warm water, is shampooed by the machine and then lathered by their owners before being rinsed once again. There’s even a hair drier for the lucky dog, with the whole process taking about 30 minutes.

One can envisage there being a huge demand for this kind of thing, with the machines springing up as welcome additions to self-service car washes, making the Spanish inventors Eduardo and Andrés extremely happy – and no doubt wealthy – people. In some facilities there are even ‘dog robes’, a kind of towel-like dressing gown that you can use to keep your dog warm in after its shower.

An added bonus is that various shampoos can be used, such as medicated ones used to kill ticks and any fleas picked up during the walk. The result of this is not only do you have an extremely happy and relaxed, pest free pet, but the owners can chill out when they get home and then perhaps take that much needed massage shower themselves, while their pleased and pampered pet sleeps off a pleasant and eventful day.

AN EVOLUTION IN DOG WASHING

With 78.2 million dogs in America, it’s no wonder that the new coin-operated Dog Wash machine is doing so well. Dog lovers all over the country are now taking their pets along to this self-service Dog Wash.  Those of us who have a dog in the family know their pets well, and once they see how their dogs really enjoy the experience, it quickly becomes a routine that dogs love.

Made in America by the Evolution Dog Wash Company, this innovative dog wash system and now highly popular invention is sweeping through the country. While some companies produce a dog wash as one of many products, Evolution’s focus remains solely on this delightful invention, and on making their Dog Wash a wonderful and enjoyable experience for our furry friends. It’s because this top rated Dog Wash station is made in America that those ordering them see their product arrive so quickly. Evolution’s staff is second to none: the company have recruited experts that are happy to talk to customers and cover any concerns or issues that may arise.

One of the great things about Evolution is the deal they’re offering to customers. Not only can you buy this top rated coin-operated Dog Wash outright but you can also lease it for only $400 a month! There’s even a buyout for only $1. Business savvy Evolution can offer that deal because they know what a great success this product will be. They’re also aware that companies offering this service will benefit from the sale of other products in their premises. After all, a happy dog means a cheerful customer – and cheerful customers buy.

With business’s running Dog Washes reporting up to 75 customers over a weekend the proceeds are there for all to see. If you only have 100 customers during the entire week and the wash fee charged is $10, then that’s around $4000 a month ($3600 profit if you’re leasing the machine) or $1800 if you only get 50 customers a week. One can just imagine the results when you get more customers!

The Humane Society states that thirty-nine percent of American households own one dog, (humanesociety.org) while twenty-eight percent own two. That’s a staggeringly high proportion of any town’s population. It makes sense, therefore, that companies offering Evolution’s revolutionary top rated Dog Wash equipment would draw in fresh customers from this pool of potential clients.

Keeping customers happy is the key to sales and Evolution is excelling at this. They ensure their product is top notch, and that dogs really do enjoy being washed in their dog bathing equipment. The ease of using the equipment, along with low cost, means that customers are likely to wash their dogs more often. With the wash set at a comfortable height for ease of use it also allows many of the delighted animals the opportunity to jump in themselves – proof indeed as to how much dogs love this top coin-operated Dog wash. This also means those irritating back aches from having to bend down next to the bath while washing your pet, could rapidly become a thing of the past; so not only is it great for dogs but beneficial for their owners, too.

Evolution’s determination to ensure their product is enjoyed by dogs is extremely gratifying. It goes to show that this superb product is made by dog lovers, for dog lovers.

SELF SERVE DOG WASH PERFECT AFTER BEACH

After a good and tiring walk, followed by a swim in the sea – or even an optional muddy puddle – it’s always good practice to wash your dog after a dip. Rather than take your beloved pet home to clean it why not use a self serve dog wash by Evolution Dog Wash?  This clears any salt or muddy residue, leaving your dog’s fur soft and fluffy.  It’s well known that canine’s adore them, so what better way to completely delight your beloved pet after a swim than a wash in a facility that’s designed specifically for your dogs’ pleasure?

Using a self serve dog wash is not only enjoyable for your animal, but it ensures any pests don’t get transported home. To doubly ensure protection then the medicated shampoo at a dog wash will rid your pet of any recent unwanted visitors, while recommended spot-on treatment provides more long-lasting protection.

It’s well known that most dogs love swimming no matter what the weather, particularly in the sea. Not only does your pet find this enjoyable but it’s also a great exercise for them. It builds stamina, and tires them out while also cooling them off when they’re all hot and bothered.

Throwing a ball, stone or stick out into the waves is considered a great hoot by your pet, and you’ll immediately see it bounding off into the waves trying to retrieve whatever you’ve thrown. Dog owners love seeing their pets enjoy themselves and a play in the water is a treat enjoyed by both canines and their human companions. Safety of your pet is paramount and one should always be aware of strong tides and whether your animal can exit the water safely.

One concern with sea water is that the salt can make your pet’s skin itchy. It can really irritate your pet, and you may find your dog scratches until it eventually bleeds. Consequently pets should always be rinsed off after a swim to alleviate this. If hosed off afterwards then swimming in the sea can be highly beneficial to your dog. They love being in the water and their excitement shows the instant they realize where they’re going.

Many people are convinced that sea water kills fleas and other pests. It’s unlikely that the cause of this is the salt itself but simply that the pests drown. Should your pet have fleas then the most important thing is to consider where they came from. It could be that your dog has just picked these vermin up from long grass during your excursion, but it’s also possible that they could be an already existing problem, and if so are likely to be in your dog’s bed and even your carpets.

If indeed those pests didn’t originate from your home then the medicated, anti flea shampoo available from dog washes ensures you don’t take these creatures home with you – enabling them to infect not only your dog’s bed but the entire house in no time at all. All flea shampoos are a short term solution to a centuries old problem, so the best option is a regular spot-on flea treatment recommended by your vet, such as Advantage or Frontline. Should your house become infected then a full spray of your entire abode, or other treatment such as flea-bombs, will be required.

TOP 5 SELF SERVE DOG WASH LOCATIONS

Whether you are looking to start a brand new self serve dog wash business, or you’ve got an existing business to which you’d like to add additional revenue; here are the Top Five locations for a self serve dog wash installation.  We based this list on traffic potential, existing client base, dog owner density, and actual success of dog wash owners.

These are the top five self serve dog wash locations in no particular weighted order:

1. Car Wash: Adding a self-serve dog wash to a car wash is probably the easiest of all installations due to the water lines already being there.  The dimensions of the self-serve dog wash allow for two or three dog washes to easily fit in one car wash bay.  There is a ready stream of existing customers and many customers stop by the car wash with their dog after a day out hiking, camping or after work.  The Car Wash is now a one-stop for washing the car and the dog.  Aaron Voorhees owns Living Water Car Wash and installed a self-serve dog wash at his location and is planning on adding another. He says, “I build car washes around the country. One of my clients did a bunch of research and was putting it a self serve dog wash at one of their locations. We built a custom outside location with convertible walls for summer and winter heat in the winter. Everybody seems to like the open area. Initially it was the carwash that brought in most of the customers, but we’ve been doing a lot of guerilla marketing at hiking trails, dog parks, signs. etc. and now it’s brought business to my car wash.  People will drive farther for the dog wash. I think it’s the quality and cleanliness of our dog wash. On a Saturday, we’ll do 15 dog washes a day.”

2. Laundry and Dry Cleaning: This location typically has a steady flow of dog owners who live in apartments and tend to be young singles or retirees.  They are on the go and are use to paying for services for convenience.  Being able to wash their dog while doing laundry kills two birds with one stone.  For retirees, the ergonomic design of the self-serve dog wash  makes it easy to wash their dog without bending over like you do when you wash your dog in the bathtub.  Chuck Steininger owns Steininger’s Laundry & Dry Cleaning in Selins Grove, PA and currently owns one Self Serve Dog Wash.  Chuck says, “Some people put their laundry in and then wash their dog, but the majority who use our self serve dog wash in are non-laundry customers.  It’s another tool to market our dry cleaning and laundry as well.  I get a decent amount of people who don’t dry clean or do laundry with us, but they’ll drive a little further to use our dog wash.  Two to five miles is the typical maximum dry cleaning driving distance.  We have a few customers coming from 25-30 minutes away.  One has a dog wash near them but they like how we keep it climate controlled and clean. Our weekends are our biggest time.  We’re probably doing about 14-18 dogs on a Saturday and again on Sunday. I really knew nothing about the business before starting. I got into it not knowing what to expect. About two years prior, I read a magazine article about what people spend on their pets and I said, ‘Wow! I have to get into that market.’ I do a lot of research and it took me probably two years to decide. I had some space and thought why not give it a try?I initially looked at the tub type and the dishwasher type thing, and was curious about the automatic type that Evolution offered.  I narrowed it down to Evolution because the pumps looked commercial type and the quality.  My customers tell me this a great idea.  One lady said, ‘No more on my knees and dirt all over the bathroom.’  Everything has been extremely positive.”

3. Dog Care Facilities: Boarding and “doggie-daycare” facilities are perfect fits for self serve dog washes. A freestanding dog wash facility is the ideal turnkey business.  Having a coin-operated dog wash or better yet, one that takes credit cards allows the business owner to literally run their business from their iPhone.  The Evolution Dog Wash allows owners of their self serve dog wash to view shampoo, water, and real-time income via a convenient app.  A typical 1500 square foot space can fit up to four dog wash systems allowing for up to 20 dogs an hour to be washed at an average of $10-15 per wash.

4. Apartment Complex: Many apartment owners average 5-10% vacancy rates.  Why not dedicate one room to steady income by converting it into a dog wash facility.  Not only does this add a conversion tool and more value to your leasing agent’s pitch, but just five dog washes a day pays for your expense.  In today’s competitive upscale rental market,  one more amenity often makes a difference.

5. Dog Park: Many public dog parks are looking for funding to help with maintenance.  Having a self-serve dog wash at the dog park is a no-brainer.  No one likes to take a dog drool covered dog home after a day wrestling with a dozen other dogs.  A dog wash creates a healthier environment for the dog park and encourages better hygiene for the local dog community.  Many municipalities cover their expenses through the dog wash system’s revenue.

PET WASH STATION FRANCHISES: A SELF-SERVE TREND IN THE DOG GROOMING AND PET WASH INDUSTRY

Dog Groomers are moving from the old ramp and tub pet washes to self-serve pet wash systems.

The main reason dog groomers are now choosing to install self-serve models like the Evolution Dog Wash is that it frees up their time to groom more dogs and it generates additional revenue from more frequent pet wash customers.

For years, many dog groomers have used the old ramp and tub pet wash to wash pets prior to grooming them. However, many dog groomers are now moving away from this system and using the more efficient self-serve pet washes.

Coin-operated pet wash stations allow the pet owner to choose what products they want to use for their dog. According to Erika at Hoboken Dog Wash in New Jersey, “Many of my customers enjoy washing their dog at our pet wash station because it is more convenient that a tub. Even when we end up washing the dogs for the customer, it’s a much more efficient process than using the old tub wash and towels.  Plus, the customers think it’s a really cool system. Customers who have big dogs really like that it doesn’t make a giant mess in their bathtub. This has brought business in from many short hair and shedding breed dogs that don’t normally get grooming services.

Some are considering pet wash station franchises while others are choosing to buy the dog washes outright. There are pros and cons to each.

Choosing a Pet Wash Station Franchise

Buying into a pet wash franchise is great for someone who doesn’t already have a brand or needs help financing a dog wash location. Most pet wash franchises offer at a minimum: marketing help, franchise branding, and branded pet care products. However there are ongoing franchise fees that are subject to change and the franchisee doesn’t have as much freedom.

Buying a Pet Wash Station Outright

Buying a pet wash station outright offers a lower ongoing operating cost and in the end you own your own company.  Plus, you can use your own pet shampoo products and market how you choose.  Many companies such as Evolution offer a la carte marketing guidance for your dog wash business for nominal fees.  Financing for the pet wash station is affordable and can often pay for your investment in as little as a year.

Regardless of whether you purchase a franchise or finance your pet wash station, adding it to your dog grooming business will pay dividends over time.

FUNDRAISING FOR ANIMAL SHELTERS

In order to raise funds to keep non-profit animal shelters running, many reach out to people who’ve adopt pets from them.

Adopters are typically already concerned with the welfare of animals and represent the greatest opportunity for donations.  However, donations don’t always meet the budget needs that most animal shelters must meet each month.  Therefore, many shelters are working to further develop community relations and reach beyond people who’ve supported them through animal adoptions.

To save as many animals as possible, shelters must constantly work to generate funds in order to be “self-sustaining.”   One way for animal shelters to become “self-sustaining” is to provide additional services for pet adopters and pet owners in the shelter’s local area.  A great revenue generator for shelters is having a self-serve pet wash station like EvolutionDogWash.  A pet wash station that is self-serve does not require additional labor from the already stretched staff of the shelter and it provides a steady stream of income (See Self Serve Dog Wash Value) from people who have adopted dogs.  If marketed right, animal shelters can attract other pet owners who have not adopted a dog from the shelter but are looking for a dog wash.  This also exposes more people to the cause of animal sheltering.

We interviewed Stephanie McDonald, CEO of Edmonton Humane Society in Alberta, Canada.

Stephanie says,

“The dog wash is a valuable source of revenue.  In the shelter environment, we can’t rely 100% on donations.  We wanted to create a one-stop shop for your animal’s grooming needs.  Initially, we couldn’t find a company capable of realizing our vision to provide an onsite grooming facility, but Evolution Dog Wash stepped forward and made it possible. We raise a tremendous amount of revenue from our self-serve dog wash as a result. This money goes back into the shelter for the benefit of shelter animals and helps us meet our goal of being “self-sustaining.”

Was there any initial resistance by the public to the shelter owning a dog wash machine that makes money?

“There wasn’t any resistance from the public because there were no other self-serve dog washes. The only resistance came from doggy day cares and dog training centers whose staff provided dog wash services and didn’t want to compete. But people in our community know that shelters need creative ways to generate revenue in order to sustain themselves, so the self-serve dog wash was well supported.”

Do you find that you gain new or repeat “customers” who come to use the self-serve dog wash and have never been to the Humane society?

“Most of the customers for the dog wash are people who have never been to the Edmonton Humane Society, which is great because it exposes them to what we do, and they come back. Also, some people who’ve just adopted from us want to strengthen the bond they have with their new pets, and one way to do that is to give their pets a bath. So they use the self-serve dog wash here at the shelter, they realise what a great service it is, and they become regular customers. It’s great.”

What is the maintenance involved with running a self-serve dog wash?

“There is really minimal maintenance. Our maintenance staff members clean the room on a regular basis and we offer towels- that’s it.”
